About Me

I am a software developer who has recently relocated to Hamilton from Auckland.

I grew up on a dairy farm in the north Waikato and completed a BSc majoring in Computer Science at Waikato University.
After completing my degree I moved up the highway to Auckland where I spent 17 years in the software development industry.

I started my career doing Visual Foxpro Development. When .NET was released we started migrating as many systems as we could across to .NET using SQL server.
As web technologies have progressed the majority of systems I have worked on have been moved over to web based systems using .NET, HTML, CSS, javascript and jQuery.
Of course web does not fit every scenario so I have done some work on windows forms and WPF as well for those that require offline/desktop functionality.

Developing websites and software is all lots of fun but there isn't much point unless you know why you are developing it.
Without knowing what purpose the piece of software is being written for it is often easy to end up going off on the wrong track and ending up with a solution that does not quite fit with the original idea.
